Research

I am an environmental biogeochemist with a broad research interest in soil organic matter dynamics and greenhouse gas emissions from natural and managed systems. My research works includes both empirical studies and process-based modeling. I enjoy coupling data generated from empirical studies and environmental networks with process-based (aka mechanistic) and machine learning models. I evaluate the fate of soil (and ecosystem) carbon (and nutrient) in the face of climate change in systems ranging from the tropics and subtropics to temperate and temperate-boreal transition zones and soils from forests, wetlands, grasslands, and agricultural landscapes.

I received multiple awards for my work including the 2022 Sergei A. Wilde Early Career Achievement Award from Soil Science Society of America (Forest, Range and Wildland Soils Division), 2018 Gene E. Likens Award from Ecological Society of America (Biogeosciences section), and 2019 Best Student Authored Paper Award from Soil Ecology Society. Here are a few recent examples of my featured works by the Department of Energy Office of ScienceCrop-Soil-Agronomy News, and Emory News Center

My lab is funded by the National Science Foundation, Department of Energy, United States Department of Agriculture, Valent U.S.A./Valent Biosciences, Emory College of Arts and Sciences, University Research Council, and Halle Institute for Global Research at Emory University.
